WASTEWATER SUPERINTENDENT - Middleborough Wastewater Department, Department of Public Works

Status:              Full-time   

Grade:              Department Head – GMEG Bargaining Unit

 

The Town of Middleborough with a population of 22,000 is accepting resumes for the position of Wastewater Superintendent.  The Middleborough Wastewater System has approximately 2,000 customers and is an advanced tertiary treatment facility designed to treat 2.16 million gallons per day operating 29 miles of pipe, six (6) pumping stations plus the facility.  The department has an annual budget of $1.8 million.  The Water Superintendent works under the administrative direction of the DPW Director and Town Manager and in conformance with federal, state and local regulatory laws, rules and regulations.  The Wastewater Superintendent has direct supervisory responsibility for approximately five (5) full-time employees. 

 

Requirements include a strong background in wastewater treatment; experience in management and budgeting; seven (7) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a Grade 6 or higher treatment facility; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Bachelor’s degree highly desired.  Special requirements include possession of a Massachusetts Grade 6 Wastewater Treatment operator’s license.  The successful candidate will possess strong management, leadership, training and communication skills and have the ability to interact positively with the Board of Selectmen, Town Manager, department heads and the public.  Salary is commensurate with experience and skills.

LEAD MAINTENANCE/WASTE WATER OPERATOR POSITION - FOXBORO MA

 

This position is full time with salary/benefits conditional upon skill level in Waste Water Treatment, HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Appliance, etc.  Hours of 8am-4:30 pm daily with an on call schedule for maintenance emergencies only.

 

Waste Water Treatment Plant:  Person must have valid Massachusetts Certified Waste Water Treatment Operator license of a Grade 4 or Higher. The person is responsible for the daily operation of the plant (which is an RBC system), as well as facilities maintenance of 50+ apartments, offices, and a shopping plaza.

 

The position is responsible for a multitude of preventative maintenance and work order completion.

Maintenance responsibilities & tasks are broken up into daily, weekly, seasonally and annual duties.

 

A personable, trustworthy, focused individual is needed to multi task and handle a multitude of friendly to irate residents in a calm and thorough manner.

 

The position does require creating and/or working within an established maintenance budget.

Duties:

This is skilled work at the supervisory level in the operation, maintenance and control of the water Pollution control Facility and a VSS Water system. Administers and is in direct responsible charge of the facility during all working hours. Directly accountable to top management, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the MA Department of Environmental. Reviews and is responsible for the effective and efficient continuous operation of screening, grit removal, aeration, clarification, return and waste sludge pumping, filtration, disinfection, dechlorination, solids dewatering, and other wet-line and solids handling processes. We are currently searching for a Wastewater Operator to work in our North Attleboro location on the second shift.  As an integral part of our operation, the incumbent will be responsible for operating and maintaining the wastewater treatment system in a safe and orderly manner to meet the needs of both production departments and the requirements of the Town of North Attleboro as spelled out in our discharge permits. 

Skills:

·   Good record keeping skills.

·   Good math and chemistry skills as would be required to obtain Massachusetts state license for industrial wastewater operators.

·   Ability to operate forklift to load large gaylords on trailers.

·   Effective verbal and written English communication skills.

·   Must be able to move heavy 55 gallon drums up to 800 lbs. with the use of a pallet jack, forklift or hand truck.

·   Ability to twist, climb ladders, lift, and occasionally push/pull large heavy gaylord on dollies.

·   Ability to follow written standard operating procedures. 

Experience:

·         At least two years of experience in a chemical manufacturing company; specifically, experience with safe handling of hazardous chemicals, acids, bases, etc. 

·         Grade 2 Wastewater license 

Duties and Responsibilities:

·     Monitor and record flow to POTW according to permit.

·     Monitor and record flow in pre-treatment system.

·     Change filters as needed for bags, cartridges and filter press.

·     Operate and maintain various pumps:  Centrifugal, air-diaphragm, positive displacement.

·     Keep track of supplies (chemicals, filters, spare parts, et.) and restock when needed.

·     Maintain inventory and supply of caustic soda and sulfuric acid for WW area and various users.

·     Assist other departments in disposing of waste solutions; determine proper place for disposal.

·     Collect and prepare samples for testing by internal or external labs.

·     Operate and maintain various pH and flow meters.

·     Maintain a good inventory of supplies and tools.

·     Perform routine maintenance.

·     Work with supervisor to develop improvements in system operation.

·     Must be able to train on the 1st shift for 2 to 3 months

TECHNICIAN – BURLINGTON, MA 

ROUX ASSOCIATES, INC., a national environmental consulting and management firm has an immediate need for an entry-level technician in our Burlington, MA office.

WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR VI

The Town of Medfield Department of Public Works is accepting resumes for a certified Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator VI.  This position is responsible for operating the WWTP in compliance with applicable local, state, and Federal environmental requirements, including performing daily rounds, assisting with equipment repairs, and troubleshooting and correcting operational problems. Other responsibilities include grounds keeping, pressure washing, sweeping, cleaning, and shoveling. The position requires eight hour shift work including rotating on-call nights, weekends and legal holidays as required.

Qualifications:

1.       Massachusetts Grade VI or higher wastewater operator license, or the ability to obtain within one year

WATER AND WASTEWATER OPERATOR – UPTON, MA

Town of Upton MA Position Title:   Water and Wastewater Operator  Statement of Duties:   Maintains water and sewer operating system for Town of Upton. Employee is required to perform all similar or related duties.

Essential Functions:

The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position. 

1.      Operates, cleans, maintains and lubricates water booster stations, sewage pumping stations and wastewater treatment plant machinery, as well as water system equipment. This equipment includes, but is not limited to electric motors, controls, internal combustion engines, pumps, blowers and related and similar equipment. Maintains the requisite supply of various chemicals and verifies proper feed rates of chemicals being added to the water and sewer systems.

2.      Understands and remains current in the proper operation of the wastewater treatment plant, sewage pumping stations and the water source and distribution systems. Understands the treatment processes and the requirements for safe and efficient operation for both; insures the processes remain in control.

3.      When assigned, performs custodial duties and grounds maintenance. May be given snow removal assignments, requiring snow shoveling, snow and ice removal from sidewalks, steps, drives and pavements; and may be assigned to operate equipment used for snow plowing, snow removal, sanding and/or salting of streets, and clearing of sidewalks and parking areas.

4.      Position is a 24/7 position for on-call response during emergencies as called upon including, but not limited to, water breaks, sewer breaks and back ups, snow and ice emergencies, etc.

5.      Uses meters, detection equipment, air compressors, hammers, drills and other tools in the operation, maintenance and repair of the wastewater treatment facility, sewage pumping stations and the water source and distribution system stations and equipment.

6.      Assists in maintaining records of installation of and repairs to sewer mains, services and related equipment.

7.      Oversees contractors installing water and sewer mains, services, manholes, pumping stations, valves, fittings and related materials and equipment. Makes reports of any unauthorized changes to approved plans, or of any violations of the water and sewer departments’ policies, rules or regulations to the water/sewer supervisor.

8.      Assists other DPW divisions when assigned.

9.      Operates equipment such as air compressors, power mowers and pickup trucks.

Special Requirements

Grade 5C Wastewater, Distribution DI and Treatment TI, Water Backflow License, Hoisting License, CDL Class B. In order to be eligible for promotion and/or pass probationary period, employee must be fully licensed and show demonstrable skills, knowledge and mechanic aptitude as it pertains to systems for which employee is licensed and as it pertains to water break response and repair, pipe installation, pump repair, and general operations and maintenance of water and sewer systems including electric motors, controls, internal combustion engines, pumps, blowers, related similar equipment, handling chemicals, etc. 

When/if operating classification level of town owned sewerage treatment and water distribution facilities change, employees are required to obtain new levels of licensure and certification within a one year period as a condition of employment.

OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE (O&M) TECHNICIAN – MAYNARD, MA

Applicant will perform manual and technical work including the operation of equipment such as pumps, gates, valves, wastewater and sludge processing equipment and plant support systems.   Duties may also include grounds and building maintenance as directed. Applicant will operate light trucks, hydraulic equipment, gas monitors, and other tools and equipment. Applicant will also be responsible for repairing and maintaining machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools and production machines and equipment.
